KUM’s Preschool Music class is often the child’s introduction to enjoying music in a group. The goal is to encourage a love of music. The children sing, play instruments, listen, create and move to music. They learn musical concepts of forte and piano, legato and andante and to reinforce concepts like opposites, patterns, high and low, loud and soft, and fast and slow. Music is used to build self-control and to practice making good choices as the children have their instruments “rest” in silence on the floor-the hardest of all! The class is taught once a week by a teacher trained in music.
Believing that every child is an artist, K.U.M. Preschool offers art experiences in our K.U.M. Atelier. The Atelier is an art studio that fosters opportunities for children to explore a wide variety of art materials to nurture the creative process. The art activities are facilitated by a teacher trained in art.
Movement for preschool children is necessary to establish and enhance their coordination, fine and gross motor skills, balance, strength, and to instill an overall awareness of good health and the importance of physical activitiy in their young lives. Activites in class range from basic exercise, stretching, games, and even yoga. The movement class schedule consists of a warm-up session of stretches, a general main activity, and a cool down/relaxation conclusion. It is taught once a week to all classes.
Spanish class is a great opportunitiy to immerse your child into the Spanish language. The teacher uses a hands on approach in which art, construction and fine and gross motor activities are incorporated as well as music and songs. Other children not in those classes are welcome to enroll in the class on Wednesdays from 11:30 – 12:00.
